California AB 660 is in effect for covered foods manufactured on or after July 1, 2026. This page provides an overview and shows planned workflow concepts that are not generally available. It is not legal advice or a compliance guarantee.
Labeling Provisions in Effect
For covered foods manufactured on or after July 1, 2026, a responsible manufacturer, processor, or retailer that uses a quality or safety date must use a permitted term. Applicability depends on the product, labeling responsibility, exceptions, and other law.

Current Beta and Planned Date-Label Concepts
Experimental Visual Estimate
A produce-photo scanner is not part of the current build. If a future verified build adds one, it would provide a supplemental visual estimate only; it could not manage required label text, determine safety, or replace human review.
Planned Markdown Workflow
A future, separately scoped workflow could support business-defined markdown decisions or POS updates after customer review. Xpired does not claim a current production POS integration, and AB 660 does not require a particular discount or markdown schedule.
Planned Operational Reporting
Internal reports on labels, markdowns, or waste metrics are planned concepts, not generally available features and not reporting required by AB 660.
Planned Consumer Education
Explanatory messaging and signage templates are planned concepts, not generally available features. AB 660 does not require retailers to display this signage.
Human-Reviewed Freshness
No scanner is available in the current build. If a future verified build adds photo analysis for supported produce, any resulting estimate would be supplemental and could be wrong. No estimate is a safety, shelf-life, quality, or markdown guarantee.
